Their unbeaten record continues on the world stage after Katie and Michellie secured another world title in Rotterdam at the 2017 World Championships.

Katie has had a few injury setbacks in 2017 including a persistent calf tear which has kept her focussed on her swim and bike leg and minimised her running training. Katie believes her running can still improve given she has only recently started running again.

“I was in an intensive training camp in Spain before heading to Rotterdam for the race. My preparation was really good and I’m much better for the experience on focusing for a big race. There is lots of precision in race preparation with Michellie and I. This was the first time I have been surrounded by some of Australia’s best elite triathletes at Triathlon Australia’s Head Coach Jamie Turner’s base, all of which provided new experiences.
The race itself was challenging with a technical cycle course. I was really pleased with my swim, and it was the first time I led out of the water. There were a few world-ranking athletes who didn’t run the race but Susana Rodriguez from Spain, certainly pushed me and is building well for Tokyo.”

Katie is enjoying living in her new surroundings on the Gold Coast training under Triathlon Australia High Performance Coach Dan Atkins. The SAF founder has a number of speaking engagements in the coming months. Her training also takes on a new regime as she moves out of competition into a rebuilding and endurance phase.
